Google has announced a slate of new changes for Google+ in the coming months, including the ability to have separate Google and Google+ accounts. This essentially means that if you don't want to be on Google+, you don't have to be.

For three years, Google has forced Google+ users to use their real names, or face a ban from the social network. This week, Google changed its tune, allowing users to use any name they choose, in the "hope that today's change is a step toward making Google+ the welcoming and inclusive place that we want it to be."

Google+ is adding a whole bunch of features to lure even more photographers onto its social network, and it's also introducing a new Auto Awesome Movie movie-making feature which automatically edits together a short movie based on your clips and photos.

The Google+ Photos app, previously only available on Google's flagship Chromebook Pixel, is now available on all Chromebooks. It's an app that automatically extracts and uploads photos to your Google+ account from storage media (SD card) inserted into the Chromebook.

Google+ Hangouts now comes with remote desktop, which lets you remotely control someone else's PC during a Hangout chat session. The Hangout Remote Desktop app is built using the same technology found in the Chrome Remote Desktop app.

In the last quarter of 2012, Google+ became the second most popular social media on the Internet, just slightly behind Facebook. In third place was Youtube, another Google product, while Twitter was in fourth place.
