Futuremark has teased an upcoming DirectX 12 benchmark called Time Spy, which has been built from the ground up to support features like asynchronous compute, multi-threading, and explicit multi-adapter technology.

Microsoft is rolling out a Windows 10 update that will allow apps and games based on its Universal Windows Platform (UWP) to uncouple their framerates from the monitor's refresh rate. UWP-based games will also now support AMD FreeSync and NVIDIA G-Sync for smoother gameplay.

AMD has used Futuremark's new 3DMark API Overhead feature test to demonstrate the performance gains of the next-generation DirectX 12 API on its own hardware. The results show a significant increase in CPU draw calls over DirectX 11, improved performance-per-watt, and better utilization of multi-core CPUs, which should be welcome news to both gamers and developers.
