Finally, Dell has revealed their Ultrabook to the world at CES 2012. Set your eyes on the Dell XPS 13, a compact little machine that manages to squeeze 13-inches of screen into an 11-inch form factor. To sweeten the deal, the XPS 13 also features a modern styling found on its older silbings.

We've been promised some very exciting form factors thanks to the flexibility of Ultrabooks coupled with Windows 8, and the appropriately named Lenovo Ideapad Yoga is one such Ultrabook. This spiffy little form-bender flexes to become a tablet in one moment and then a notebook the next moment.
A short while back, we reported that Acer will be placing big bets on Ultrabooks, and the result is what you see here today -- the Acer Aspire S5. One of the more important tidbits was that Acer will be moving away from producing "cheap" products, and it is clearly evident in the Acer Aspire S5.
HP has just announced the HP Envy 14 Spectre, an Ultrabook that has a Gorilla Glass lid and palmrest. The material seems to be a refreshing change from the usual aluminum or magnesium alloy that we're used to seeing. However there seems to be certain concerns regarding its Ultrabook legitimacy.

At CES 2012, LG will be showcasing its Super Ultrabook series, the LG Z330 and Z430. Both ultrabooks are slated for a global availability sometime in Q1 2012.

Taiwanese PC manufacturer Acer has recently indicated that it will be banking on Ultrabooks to return them into profitability. As part of the same move, Acer has also signaled that they will stop focusing on "cheap and unprofitable" products in a blind race for market share.

Taiwanese memory module manufacturer, Adata Technology has reported that rising demand for tablets, and an influx of short lead-time orders from the Ultrabook sector, led to SSD sales staying at high levels. Hopefully, the strong demand reported will lead to lower SSD prices.

Acer's chairman, J.T Wang, feels that Ultrabooks could be the magic bullet that jolts the "Wintel" (Windows-Intel) slump on touch-centric devices. He also mentioned price as a major deciding factor that will make or break the Ultrabook.

The best part about the bigger, better and faster competition between manufacturers is that consumers may have full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) Ultrabooks to choose from as early as Q1 2012.

It was going to happen sooner or later. Manufacturers, who are now facing a dire shortage of hard drives due to the floods in Thailand, have announced that one they will raise their notebook prices by 2 to 3 percent.
