Sony spokesman Dan Race issued a statement to The Washington Post that the number of PlayStation 4 consoles affected by the "blue light of death" is fewer than 1 percent of all consoles sold.
After tearing down the PlayStation 4 and analyzing its components, it is believed that each console costs Sony about US$381 to build.

Sony's Playstation 4 App for Android and iOS has appeared in the North American iTunes and Google Play app stores. The app lets users view and interact with the PlayStation Network and view information through the "What's New feature." It is expected to launch locally on 19th December to coincide with the local launch of the PS4.
