After suffering US$15 billion in losses over the last two financial years, Panasonic has announced that it will pull out of the consumer smartphone market. This comes just a year after attempting to expand its smartphone business to Europe in March 2012.

Panasonic has just announced the successor to the Lumix DMC-GX1, called the Lumix DMC-GX7. New features include a 2,764K-dot tilting LVF (live viewfinder), a 1,040K-dot tilting rear touch-screen, optical image stabilization and a newly designed 16MP image sensor. Hit the link for more.

Sony and Panasonic have announced that they will be working together to develop next-gen optical discs for professional use. The first target is an optical disc with recording capacity of at least 300GB by the end of 2015.

Panasonic has announced a new prime lens; the Lumix G 20mm f/1.7 II ASPH is the successor to the popular 20mm f/1.7 lens, which was recently discontinued. The new 20mm f/1.7 II features a newly designed metallic profile and promises to maintain the same great performance of the original.

Panasonic has announced a new line of micro SDHC memory card with 'six-proof' properties; the new cards are waterproof, possess static electrical resistance, magnetic resistance, X-ray resistance and heat resistance. The new cards will be available on July 13th.

Today at CommunicAsia 2013, Panasonic launched the JT-B1 Toughpad for Asia-Pacific, a 7-inch rugged tablet operating on Android Ice Cream Sandwich. The JT-B1 is US Military MIL-STD-810G and IP65 certified making it resistant to dust, water, shock, humidity, temperature and drops of up to 1.5m.
