What Good is PRWeb?

Earlier today, a press release was published on PRWeb.com which stated that Wi-Fi provider ICOA had been acquired by Google for US$400 million. The 'news' was repeated across the web until it was discovered to be a fake. Besides who sent it, the other question is why it was sent to PRWeb and just what does PRWeb do?
