Intel is reported to be dropping the facial recognition feature from its Web TV service set-top box. This feature was intended to deliver customized programming to different family members. However, due to certain technical issues, Intel will do away with this feature.

Intel is beta testing set-top boxes from its Internet TV services, with more than 2,000 company employees located in three different states in the US. The trials are alleged to have started as early as March this year, and the testing contingent is set to grow as more employees are included.

According to Bloomberg Businessweek, Amazon is planning to launch its own television set-top box. This TV-based device can be viewed as a natural extension to Amazon Instant Video that is an video-on-demand service currently only available in the United States.

Intel is planning to launch its own Internet TV service along with its set-top box by the end of the year. This is according to Mr. Erik Huggers who is the corporate vice president at Intel Media, a new company division that comprises staff members formerly from Apple, Google, Netflix and Jabber.
