AMD has released its first 64-bit, ARM-based Opteron A1100 series processors for servers. These chips support 4- or 8-core ARM Cortex-A57 processors. The company also announced its contribution of a new micro server design, based on the Opteron A-series, to the Open Compute Project.

AMD has announced the immediate availability of two new Opteron 6300 series processors. They are the 12-core 6338P and the 16-core 6370P chips, based on the Piledriver 32nm microarchitecture. According to AMD, these Socket G34 chips are optimized to deliver improved performance per-watt for hardware virtualization.

AMD has just announced its first ARM-based server processor, codenamed 'Seattle' that will feature ARM Cortex-A57 cores. It will be available initially as an 8-core processor, with a 16-core version to follow later. Volume production of the chip is slated for the second quarter of 2014.

AMD's SeaMicro has just launched its new SM15000 servers that feature AMD Opteron and Intel Xeon CPUs. They are aimed squarely at the cloud computing market. These products updates to its server platform are its first since being acquired by AMD earlier this year.

TYAN announces a series of server platforms which support the AMD Opteron 4100 Series processor. The new 4100 processors feature improved power efficiency and management, as well as support for DDR3 memory, PCIe Gen 2 I/O and HyperTransport 1.0 technology.
