Yamaha has just updated its AV Controller app to version 4 (iTunes App Store link, Google Play store link), which now supports the company’s 2014 network-capable AV receivers. For those unaware, this free app essentially turns a smartphone or tablet into a Wi-Fi-enabled remote control for compatible Yamaha network AVR models. Users can use it to control a receiver’s music playback, inputs, volume, and power commands, select network devices, adjust DSP and Scene modes, and more.

Besides increasing the list of supported devices, version 4 of AV Controller also packs other new features, such as DSP Parameter Adjustment, rotary volume knob, and a refreshed design with new icons and menus. The DSP Parameter Adjustment feature (for 2014 models only) is particularly interesting. In a nutshell, it helps users to adjust the DSP mode to their liking, even if they aren’t well versed with the technicalities of audio processing.
