Yahoo Prioritizes Mobile, and Puts Former Wildlife Photographer in Charge of Flickr

According to a Yahoo internal memo published on All Things D, the Internet giant will now focus on emerging technologies and products that have remained stagnant after they were acquired. In the same memo, Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer also mentioned Andy Cahan has been promoted to Senior Vice President of Emerging Products and Technology. His main duties will be to supervise Yahoo's mobile products, enabled screens(CTV, IntoNow), and Flickr.

Flickr's growth has been stagnant in the recent years, but with Cahan in charge of it, all that may change. According to the San Jose (Silicon Valley) Business Journal, Cahan has plenty of media (MTV, NBC, McKinsey, NatGeo TV) experience. But it's his stint as a wildlife photographer with National Geographic, and his familiarity with photography which may revive Flickr's fortunes.

Of course, this isn't Cahan's only strength. Prior to joining Yahoo, Cahan was the relatively successful CEO of IntoNow which was acquired by Yahoo for about US$30 million when it was just 12 weeks old. According to All Things D, Cahan is also an ex-Googler himself; a status that seems to be in demand over at Yahoo considering it's currently helmed by another ex-Googler.
