Xiaomi's big Mi Max smartphone has arrived on our shores!

Following the radio silence after Hachi.tech's brief pre-order stint that got sold out real quickly, we're now happy to report that Xiaomi has brought the massive 6.44-inch phablet to several retail channels. It's now available for S$349 at Challenger, M1 and Singtel. It will also be available through Hachi.Tech and Lazada for the same price.

This entertainment oriented phone is offered in Silver and Gold color options and boast these main specifications:-

  • 6.44-inch large immersive display
  • 4850mAh all-day battery
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 650
  • 3GB RAM + 32GB Flash + Expandable storage (up to 128GB microSD)
  • 16MP PDAF and 5MP cameras
  • 7.5mm ultra-thin metal body, weighs 203g
  • Fingerprint recognition
  • 4G Dual-hybrid SIM (3-choose-2 hybrid SIM tray)

Take note that the Xiaomi Mi Max is in fact produced in three different variants, but only the 3GB RAM with 32GB internal storage option is made available for sale locally.

The wide availability of this value for money device would make it tough for ASUS to compete with their just launched ZenFone 3 Ultra. While they are different on several aspects, the Mi Max would be hard to ignore for that price point. Further to that, the value oriented ZenFone 3 Max is yet to launch.

Looks like the phablet scene just got a good jolt with this newcomer. If you're into large screen phones, this should be short on your list of considerations.
