Xiaomi unveils Smart Home Suite
The Mi Note may be the current darling in Xiaomi’s portfolio of smartphones; but let’s not forget that the young Chinese company has an even bigger ambition for its phones: to have them be the command center of your home, preferably consisting of other Xiaomi-made smart devices.
As reported by Bloomberg, at the GeekPark Innovation Festival in Beijing a few days ago, Xiaomi’s President Bin Lin unveiled a Smart Home Suite consisting of a group of four products: a motion sensor for detecting humans, a pair of door and window sensors, a wireless switching device for controlling appliances, and a multifunctional gateway to link all these components wirelessly with other devices. A consumer test of these products will begin on January 26.
Bin Lin:
“In the past, motion sensors were very complicated and large in size, so that if you wanted a system you needed professional installation. For this suite, there is not a single nail or wire. These components are all very simple.”
It’s unknown if these new devices are the first batch of products to use Xiaomi’s smart module, a module that CEO Lei Jun introduced during the Mi Note launch for third-party device makers to incorporate in their ‘dumb’ devices to turn them into smart devices.
Other smart home appliances and gadgets that Xiaomi’s currently selling include an air purifier, an IP camera, a couple of routers, a couple of smart set-top boxes, and a 4K smart TV.
