We are just halfway through the first day of 2015 and Xiaomi is already drumming up attention for its new product.

According to its tweet, Xiaomi is launching "an all-new Redmi" this Sunday, January 4. Based on specifications listed on TENNA, the new device is the dual 4G LTE model of the Redmi 1S. This particular model has two SIM card slots which support 4G LTE connectivity. The dual 4G LTE model of the Redmi 1S can be used in Singapore as it supports LTE FDD networks which are used by all three local telcos.

Other improved specs include a Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 chipset, a slightly bigger 2,200mAh battery, MIUI 6.0 running on Android 4.4 KitKat, a lighter chassis at 134g, thinner bezels and a supposedly better quality display.

There are currently two Redmi models sold in Singapore; they are the Redmi and Redmi 1S. Both phone models support dual-SIM card slots which only the left slot supports 3G mobile data while the right slot is rated for 2G data connectivity.

We were told by Hugo Barra, the Vice President of Xiaomi Global, that this was a deliberate decision to manage power efficiency. Well, we don't know if the slightly bigger battery on the upcoming device is able to last a day with not one, but two 4G SIM cards in use at the same time.

Xiaomi is said to be launching the new model with Tencent through QQ space and will be available this month. At time of publication, it's not known when or if this model will be available for purchase in Singapore.
