Xiaomi to launch its "Pinecone" processors on 28 February

Xiaomi will be joining the likes of Apple, Huawei and Samsung in designing its own mobile processors. 

The company has announced on Weibo that its "Pinecone" mobile processors will be revealed in Beijing on 28 February. Based on several leaked Geekbench results, "Pinecone" could be an octa-core processor and might debut on the Mi 5c.

Chinese site CNBETA reported in August 2015 that Xiaomi was developing its own processors for release in early 2016. GizmoChina followed up with another report claiming that there would be two different variants of the chipsets for entry and mid-range phones. The Korea Times stated in April 2016 that the mobile processors are built using a standard core license technology from ARM
