Microsoft has just announced that it will allow Xbox One players to play online with PC and PlayStation 4 players through a new feature called Cross-Network Play.

This means that your next Call of Duty or Battlefield game could feature a mix of players using an Xbox One, PlayStation 4 or even PC. This could potentially mean more players and easier and better match-finding.

But don't get too excited just yet. While this is theoretically possible, it is still up to developers to choose if they want to enable Cross-Network Play.

There are some things to consider. For example, aiming with a keyboard and mouse is usually more precise, which gives FPS players on PC a significant advantage over players on consoles. So some balancing has to take place there to level the playing field.

The first game that will support Cross-Network Play will be Rocket League, and Xbox One players will soon be able to play with PC players. Support for PS4 is likely to be added into the mix as well.
