World's First Portable Flash Controllable by a Smartphone or Tablet Coming Soon

Update (25th July): iblazr has now set up its Kickstarter page for this project. A minimum pledge of US$39 + $14 international shipping is required to receive a black or white iblazr. A more premium anodized aluminum version requires a pledge of US$53 for the first 250 backers, or US$59 after that.

Startup company iblazr has revealed a new portable flash designed specifically for smartphones and tablets that uses four hi-end CREE LEDs to provide lighting for smartphone photographers. The device provides over 100 lux on 1m in video mode and more than 180 lux in flash mode.

The device is less than 10mm in thickness and uses an audio connector to connect to your smartphone or tablet. The audio jack will also allow the flash to rotate for use with either the rear or front camera. The device is powered by its own built-in battery, so it will not drain smartphone power and comes with a free camera app that will let you control brightness in video and impulse mode.

The project is currently in the development stage, but you can sign up for information updates on iblazr's website.
