Windows Blue Update Will be Named Windows 8.1

According to ZDNet, Windows Blue will be officially named as Windows 8.1. As we have reported in August last year, the Redmond software giant has alleged plans in the pipeline to speed up the release cycle of their new Windows operating system. This development is in line with its decision.

The new updated Windows 8.1 will be released to manufacturers by August and Windows RT will also be updated to Windows RT 8.1. At this point, it is still no word from Microsoft if these updates would be made free-of-charge to existing Windows 8 and Windows RT users.

According to an earlier report this week, the market share of Microsoft's new Windows 8 OS stands at 3.31 per cent, which is drastically lesser than that of Windows 7 and even Windows XP. This data is reported by research firm Net Applications  who records data captured from around 160 million users each month. Hence, we feel that it may not be wise for Microsoft to charge for their forthcoming updates and risk incurring the displeasure of the early adopters of Windows 8 and Windows RT.
