Windows 10 Pro for Workstations is yet another Windows 10 edition, this time for power users

Microsoft has just announced Windows 10 Pro for Workstations, yet another version of Windows 10 but for power users with server-grade PC hardware.

To be available this fall alongside the Fall Creators Update, Windows 10 Pro for Workstations runs Resilient File System (ReFS), a next-gen, large data volume-optimized file system with features like automatic integrity checking and better resilience against data corruption. To enable demanding workloads, the OS also plays nice with non-volatile memory modules (NVDIMM-N) hardware. Faster file sharing between PCs and servers with large datasets is also possible thanks to support for SMB Direct. And finally, the OS will run on server-grade Intel Xeon or AMD Opteron processors, with up to four CPUs (only two currently) and 6TB of memory (2TB is the current limit).

With Windows 10 Pro for Workstations, Microsoft now has at least 11 Windows 10 editions - including four for IoT and specific devices and six for consumers and organizations (Home, Pro, S, Enterprise, Education, and Mobile Enterprise) - and that’s not counting the various subscription versions and region-specific variations.
