WhatsApp to end support for BlackBerry and other older platforms by end of 2016

You should be able to continue using WhatsApp on the Android-powered BlackBerry Priv.

If you are using WhatsApp on a BlackBerry (including BlackBerry 10), Nokia S40, Nokia Symbian S60, Android 2.1/2.2 or Windows Phone 2.1 device, better search for an alternative instant messaging app soon.

WhatsApp just announced on its blog that it will be ending support for these mobile platforms by the end of 2016. The company states that it want to focus its efforts on the mobile platforms that majority of the people use, and these old mobile platforms do not offer the kind of capabilities that it needs to expand WhatsApp's features in the future.

For users of these mobile platforms, WhatsApp recommends them to upgrade to a newer Android, iPhone or Windows Phone to continue using the instant messaging service.
