What is Yahoo Planning to Buy Next?

Ever since Marissa Mayer took over as CEO at Yahoo back in July 2012, Yahoo has been busy acquiring a number of startups and young businesses. The acquisitions include news aggregator app Summly and the micro-blogging platform Tumblr.

If the Business Insider is to be believed, Yahoo may now have set their sights on buying Imgur. Created in 2009 by a student at Ohio University, Alan Schaaf, Imgur is a site dedicated to simple hosting of photos, so that people on the net can easily share their pictures. At present the site now boasts over 100 million users.

Yahoo already has their own image hosting site in the shape of Flickr, which got a major overhaul in May 2013 and started offering 1 TB of free storage. But while Flickr is an excellent platform for photographers looking to show off their work, Imgur is a completely different beast. Imgur could be thought of as "trendier", due to the fact that most memes and viral images are hosted on the site for the purposes of sharing.

Yahoo has so far offered no comments regarding their interest in buying Imgur. The valuation for any possible deal is also not clear.
