Under former CEO Leo Apotheker it seemed that HP was moving out of the consumer market and into providing software and services. Decisions made under Apotheker included killing all webOS products, as well as thinking about selling or spinning off its PC unit. Being one of the biggest consumer PC vendors in the world, this piece of news shook the tech world.
Even though Apotheker is no longer the chief executive of HP, the company's PC unit's fate remains undecided two months after the announcement. Meg Whitman, HP's new chief executive, has an uphill task of restoring faith in HP. And one of the ways to do that is to determine the fate of HP's PC unit soon, and Whitman has stated that a decision will be made by the end of this month.
