Western Digital Introduces the Purple, a HDD Designed for Video Surveillance

Our appetite for storage is insatiable and a particular market that has been targeted for growth is that of video surveillance. Thanks to falling prices of HD video camera recording equipment, more than ever, users are seeking solutions to store their recorded surveillance footage. In fact, analyst expect the video surveillance market to grow by US$10.4 billion in 2018.

To address this, Western Digital has just announced the WD Purple, a drive designed specifically for video surveillance storage purposes. To suit its intended needs, the drive has been engineered for constant operation round the clock by employing technologies to help regulate heat and power consumption. The drive also benefits from Western Digital's AllFrame software technology for better ATA utilization and caching.
