ViewQwest wants to help you get on the Internet of Things

Customers interested in home automation can head down to ViewQwest's Suntec store to check out a how-to showcase.

ViewQwest wants Singaporeans to get on-board with home automation, and it's going to start by offering training and technical support to interested parties, alongside how-to showcases at its Suntec and Bukit Timah showrooms. ViewQwest will also start bundling smart home products with its Fibernet plans.

For those unfamiliar with home automation, Vignesa Moorthy, CEO of ViewQwest said: “There is a new breed of smart home products that you can remotely control over the Internet. These Internet Of Things (iOT) devices also work best when they work together - all connected via a high-speed Internet connection. That is why we see the smart home as a natural extension of our business.”

Right now, while there are a few home automation kits and devices available in Singapore, the problem is that it's not always obvious what you need to buy, and setting everything up requires some level of technical know-how. ViewQwest plans to address these problems by selling smart home devices directly to consumers and offering training and assistance to help them with installation and use. Moorthy said that installation will start at S$50.

ViewQwest's e-store currently retails a handful of IoT products such as the Amazon Echo voice commander, the battery-powered Arlo wireless cameras and the Philips Hue smart lighting system. By early next year, it will double the number of such products to about 20, and aim to offer a stable of about 50 of these smart home gadgets by the end of the year. ViewQwest will also build tech showcase areas at its Bukit Timah and Suntec showrooms to educate consumers on the various smart home solutions that they can set up at home.

Additionally, at Sitex next week, ViewQwest will start bundling smart home products such as the Philips Hue smart lighting system with its FIbernet broadband subscriptions. There are also plans to offer consultancy and turnkey solutions to property developers and building owners who are looking to put in place affordable smart home solutions in their respective properties.

“The rise of affordable and interoperable smart home devices will change the world and we want to be an early player in this new greenfield business,” said Mr Moorthy. “We also support the Government’s initiative to make Singapore a Smart Nation and believe that helping to create smart homes from the ground up will go a long way to help Singapore achieve its smart ambitions,” he added.
