Viewqwest invests SGD 8 million to become Singapore’s latest player in the Next Generation National Broadband Network infrastructure landscape

SINGAPORE - 2011, Singapore – Local Operating Company (OpCo), Viewqwest has invested SGD 8 million in infrastructure to offer companies access to Singapore’s Next Generation National Broadband Network (Next Gen NBN). This comes in line with the government’s plans to connect homes and offices nationwide to Singapore’s ultra high-speed Next Generation National Broadband Network by 2012. This is a project under the Intelligent Nation 2015 (iN2015) master plan, which will transform Singapore into an intelligent nation and a global city, powered by info-communications.

Viewqwest also plans to invest another SGD 15 million in the next two years as part of their ongoing efforts to build up infrastructure to allow them to cater to more companies island-wide. As an OpCo, Viewqwest plays an important role in providing for a competitive and vibrant broadband market for Singapore.

OpCos provide wholesale broadband connectivity to downstream operators such as retail service providers (RSPs) that will then package and sell broadband services to end-users. This is the second layer above the basic fiber infrastructure, which will be built by a separate "network company" (NetCo). Competition has trickled down to beyond the service provider level to the OpCo tier with more players coming into the market, offering more services at better prices.

A solution that Viewqwest has is Fibernet, their Internet Connectivity Solution. Fibernet offers companies a cost effective next-generation fiber optic to ethernet network technology with ultra high speed 10mbps to 1000mbps Symmetrical Link. Organizations will now be able to deliver more creative and useful applications such as Video Conferencing, Video Streaming, Multimedia Applications and more with quality and speed.

”We hope to bring Singapore’s connectivity infrastructure to the next level. Today almost 80% of households have broadband access and companies are looking to improve productivity and efficiency,” said Vignesa Moorthy, Chief Executive Officer, Viewqwest. “We see this as a well spent investment and strongly believe technology can enrich one’s life.”

This comes timely as more companies realize the growing need to work more effectively by harnessing the power of technology to achieve better productivity. With access to the Next Generations National Networks, organizations can now look forward to higher bandwidth for various applications such as multimedia services, file servers and etc.

Viewqwest currently focuses on providing Next Generation National Broadband Network solutions for organizations but has plans to roll out ultra high speed connections to individual consumers soon.
