Valve Officially Releases Steam for Linux Client

Valve has officially launch its Steam client for Linux and the company has announced a week-long sale for Linux games with discounts up to 75% off the listed prices. This applies to its entire Linux game catalog.

It was in April last year when we first got wind of Valve's plan to throw its weight behind Linux game development. Besides announcing the sale to herald its launch, Valve highlighted the 'Big Picture' mode feature of new Steam client that allows for gaming with a TV display and game controllers. This is in line with the company's recent Steam Box strategy of breaking into the console gaming market.

With this current development, i.e., an official Linux Steam client that serves as a conduit to deliver games to end-users, it will definitely add impetus to the Linux gaming development scene, along with strong approval from open-source proponents. For more information, do head over to the Steam Store.
