US$15 Chromecast Ethernet Adapter beefs up your media streaming experience

Google’s Chromecast has always been amazingly simple to use, but it did have one weakness – it was dependent on the quality of your wireless connection. Normally, this isn’t a problem for most people and they get on just fine. But if you’re travelling to an area where Wi-Fi signals are scarce, Google’s new Chromecast Ethernet Adapter could be exceedingly useful.

The Ethernet Adapter replaces your Chromecast’s conventional adapter with a power brick that sports a single Ethernet port. You just need to connect an Ethernet cable to the power brick and plug the power into your Chromecast to get it online. This saves you the step of connecting to a Wi-Fi network, so it’s actually simpler to setup.

The Chromecast supports only 2.4GHz wireless networks which can be overcrowded, so the Ethernet Adapter could really come in handy if you’re in an area with patchy Wi-Fi.

A USB 2.0 connection links the Ethernet Adapter with the Chromecast. This limits you to 480Mb/s of bandwidth, but it should still be a major improvement over a weak Wi-Fi signal.

And from the looks of it, uninterrupted and high-speed streaming is certainly a top priority for users in the US (because Netflix). The Ethernet Adapter is already sold out on the Google Store. The Chromecast is available locally, but the Ethernet Adapter can currently only be purchased in the US.
