Ubuntu for Tablets Announced, Developer Preview Available for Nexus Devices on 21st (Updated with Video)

Following its announcement for Ubuntu smartphones last month, Canonical has also announced a new version of its Ubuntu Linux operating system for tablet devices. Well, not that we didn't see it coming since most smartphone OSes double up for tablets as well. BGR has taken note of some of the additions:

BGR - "The operating system supports multiple user accounts from the home screen, including a “guest mode” option, and uses gestures to navigate around the user interface. It also features a notification center, sharing to all major social outlets, extensive multitasking support and is capable of displaying applications designed for both tablets and smartphones simultaneously, similar to the Snap View feature in Windows 8."

Check out the video demonstration below for a better idea of what Ubuntu has to offer:

With this announcement, the next step is to entice developers to submit apps for the promising platform. As such, Canonical plans to offer a developer preview of Ubuntu on February 21st for the Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 tablets, along with the Nexus 4 and Galaxy Nexus smartphones. If that's that case, we should be able to get a good look at Ubuntu running on these devices come MWC on the 25th. Sounds like Firefox will not be the only one heating up the competition.
