The platform promises a more immersive experience, less cluttered screen, and lets you flow naturally from app to app with edge magic. When docked, the phone becomes a full PC and thin client. Because it only integrates all-native core apps without any Java overhead, Ubuntu runs well on entry-level smartphones, yet uses the same drivers as Android.

It's designed to make all your phone content more convenient to access - every edge has a specific purpose, so all your apps, content, and controls are instantly accessible without going through the hassle of navigating back to the home screen all the time. A short swipe from the left edge of the screen reveals your favorite apps. Also, it allows for switching of running and favorite apps speedier than any other phone.

Web application sit alongside native apps, which means that apps like Facebook, Twitter, Google Maps, Gmail, and Spotify, are all available as they get their own icons and the same access to system notifications. On top of that, you get quicker access to all your emails, texts, calls, and social media posts. See every message as it comes in and respond in an instant; just swipe down from the top when a new one arrives and respond directly to Facebook, Twitter, email, SMS and good old-fashioned telephone calls.

The Gallery makes it easier than ever to organize, find, and share your photos. Every shot is instantly uploaded to your Ubuntu One personal cloud account, making it available on all your devices – including those running iOS, Android and Windows. Ubuntu includes native applications covering all the essentials you expect in a phone: telephony and voicemail, SMS and MMS, email, web browsing, photography, music and video.
