With the widespread use of Facebook, it has been argued that blogging is dead. It turns out that blogging is not dead, it has just taken on another form. Microblogging platform Tumblr has just announced that it is now amongst the top 10 most visited websites in the United States.
According to data from Quantcast, Tumblr now has a global reach of around 170 million users. This is compared to 120 million at the beginning of the year, which translates to an increase of over 40%. Data from Quantcast also indicates that Tumblr's traffic has been increasing every month for nearly four years.
Tumblr is preferred by microbloggers thanks to its use of ease and its myriad of customization options. Tumblr has also developed iOS and Android apps, making it easy for users of the two major mobile OSes to update their microblogs.
