Singapore – Canon today unveiled a camera built for adventure – the PowerShot D20. Designed for use in rough terrain, the PowerShot D20 is equipped with GPS to record your journeys. Built with material freezing temperatures, and shocks resulting from knocks and drops, the PowerShot D20 provides a reliable way to capture memories of your wildest adventures.

Camera protection everywhere

The PowerShot D20 is built to withstand challenges from the great outdoors, with unparalleled protection against water, extreme temperatures and dust.

User can expect to shoot worry-free underwater with the PowerShot D20. Conforming to the IPX8 standard, the camera is waterproof with secure seals to provide water resistance for up to 10 metres. A rust-resistant coating further reinforces its waterproof protection. The waterproof case WP-DC45, sold separately, is required for depths beyond 10 metres and is effective up to 40 metres. Other optional accessories such as the float, carabiner and shoulder straps which are attachable to the camera are also available to provide users with more convenient handling underwater.

In cold climates, the PowerShot D20 is freeze-proof up to negative 10 degrees Celsius. The anti-fogging feature ensures that the camera always captures clear shots. This is realized with a double-layer glass construction, between which an additional layer of low-water-content air is trapped, to balance the temperature differences inside and outside the camera, effectively preventing lens condensation. This design also ensures that the lens does not fog in snowy climates, where temperature and altitude can be significantly altered. Optional accessories such as the silicon camera jacket, soft case, carabiner and shoulder straps are also available.

Minute dust and sand particles are prevented from entering the camera with its dust-proof feature. With a robust LCD screen, tough camera frame and lens barrel protection, the PowerShot D20 is shock-proof up to 1.5 metres, providing users with peace of mind in rough terrain.

Location information anywhere

The built-in Global Positioning System (GPS) feature in the new PowerShot D20 allows the user to easily keep a record of his whereabouts on-ground as locations, dates and times are automatically tagged onto his photos. The bundled Map Utility software also allows the user to geo-tag photos easily. The traveller or explorer will find this useful when looking back at fond memories of his adventures in years to come.

Excellent images everytime

The PowerShot D20 is equipped with a 12.1-megapixel CMOS sensor, usually found in Canon’s EOS DSLRs. The 28mm wide-angle lens with 5x optical zoom allows close-up shots of far-away subjects. A new Underwater Macro mode further magnifies the subject as compared to the usual macro mode, when taken from the same distance. This is useful in shooting situations where the subject is not always easy to get close to.

The PowerShot D20 also runs on the high-sensitivity (HS) system, which delicately balances the merits of the high-sensitivity CMOS sensor, DIGIC 4 image processor and new lens to achieve superb image quality.

The Movie Digest feature allows bite-sized video clips to be recorded simultaneously with stills through a single press of the shutter button. In addition, the camera is able to pre-record 4 seconds of video footage before the feature is activated.

Fuss-free operations in all conditions

With usability outdoors as a key design consideration for this camera, the PowerShot D20’s buttons and their layout were designed to prevent obstructing user’s movements while operating the camera. For example, a user wearing gloves in cold climates can still operate the camera easily and effectively, without having to remove his gloves. A large 3 inch LCD screen allows easy viewing of the subject when composing shots or when reviewing shots.

The Smart Auto feature can detect up to 32 scene modes including the Advance Subject Detection mode which tracks both living and non-living subjects in motion. This reduces the need for the user to manually adjust to the different scene modes under different situations.
