The tough get tougher. Meet Olympus' new TG-870

Olympus has just launched another addition to its Tough series, the Tough TG-870. Small and compact, the 16-Megapixel camera has an ultra-wide angle 21-105mm (35mm equivalent) lens that uses the same performance optics found in the Zuiko lens system used by Olympus’ highly regarded Pen and OM-D cameras.

The camera retains the Wi-Fi compatibility and GPS support from the previous TG-860, while getting a new 920k-dot, 180-degree flip-up LCD screen that boast a screen brightness 2.6 times brighter than normal, allowing for easier viewing in bright light and underwater.

With its front shutter and flip-up LCD, the TG-870 is definitely selfie-friendly.

The TG-870 lives up to the “Tough” moniker by being 15m water-proof, 2.1m shock-proof, 100kgf crush-proof, and -10 degrees Celsius freeze-proof, but it also adds features like Autofocus-Lock functionality to ensure you can capture fast moving scenes like sports easily.

The camera’s quick and easy mode dial allows you to easily get the camera ready to capture what’s unfolding before you. For example, the Sportcam Modes puts four recording options specifically for action right at your fingertips: 60p Movie for smooth Full HD video, High-speed movie for ultra slow-motion at 120fps or 240fps, Time Lapse to compress a period of time, and Sports Burst, which takes consecutive shots at specified intervals.

The Tough TG-870 is available now in all black, white or green at all authorized Olympus stores for S$398.
