Toshiba's 21:9 Cinemascope Widescreen Notebook Spotted!

Toshiba's 21:9 Cinemascope Widescreen Notebook Spotted

At Microsoft's booth in Computex 2012, we spotted a notebook we least expected to encounter - the Toshiba U840W Ultrabook with an ultra widescreen 21:9 aspect ratio display.

The Toshiba U840W is a 14.4-inch widescreen notebook and has a resolution of 1792 x 788 pixels. This makes the notebook even wider than the Sony Vaio P netbook. Toshiba’s 21:9 screen aspect ratio clearly suggests its cinemascope movie viewing purpose, but the irony is its lack of a Blu-ray drive and you’ll have to rely on an external drive or online content. Other system specs are nothing to shout about with a modern Ivy Bridge CPU based platform and its reliance on integrated Intel graphics. Memory options go up to 6GB of DDR3 and storage options include hard drive or a solid state drive.

More interesting perhaps is the notebook’s overall build which we can tell you it screams premium. Mostly made of aluminium, it is complimented by its smooth matte rubber-like finish on the palm rest area and on the top half of the lid where you would clasp the notebook when the notebook is closed. It’s a welcomed design touch for better handling and a more comfortable typing experience. Also note the speakers flanking either side of the keyboard, which is a design often seen on premium products.

Overall, you can expect the Toshiba U840W to be expensive given its niche positioning. No details are available yet of this Ultrabook in this region, but we’ll update you as soon as we get wind of more details.
