Toshiba to restructure PC business

Toshiba has just announced that it will restructure its PC business in an effort to attain what they call "consistent profit". Specifically, what the Japanese company plans to do is to focus on the more profitable B2B field. As for its B2C businesses, it plans to control volatility by downsizing and even withdrawing from unprofitable markets. It also said that it will tap into its expertise in BIOS, security and wireless technologies to promote the Internet of Things.

Together with its increased focus in the B2B field, Toshiba hopes to decrease its dependence on sales of PC hardware. Toshiba also predicted that these measures should help the company grow its B2B businesses to over 50% in FY2016.

In the B2C market, Toshiba is looking "to withdraw from unprofitable markets, and optimize sales bases in low profit countries and regions". The company will continue to focus on developed markets, but the number of sales bases is also expected to drop from 32 to 13 in FY2014.

Additionally, as part of these restructuring efforts, Toshiba will also reduce its global PC business workforce by about 900 employees.
