Toshiba Launches the Satellite P50t with 4K Touch Display

Toshiba unveiled the Satellite P50t in January at CES. It is one of the first 4K notebooks in the world.

Toshiba has announced the availability and price of the new Satellite P50t, one of the two 4K notebooks unveiled at CES earlier this year. The P50t features a 15.6-inch 10-finger touch display at Ultra HD resolution (3840 x 2160), translating to a whopping 282 ppi. It is also the first notebook display to be Technicolor certified for true-to-life color reproduction, an important consideration for users who work with lots of graphic and video processing. For average consumers, Toshiba is targeting frequent online shoppers to better predict the color of the item they buy.

Powering the display is an AMD Radeon R9 M265X graphics chip with 2GB GDDR5 VRAM. The notebook is also able to drive a 4K external monitor or TV via HDMI. Toshiba has bundled ChromaTune software with preset configurations for easy switching between warm and cool tones depending on day or night viewing.

The Toshiba P50t displays content on a 4K TV via HDMI with no noticeable lag whatsoever - works like a charm as if you were mirroring standard full HD content.

The audio set up is nothing to sniff at either. Similar to the previous generation P50, it houses Harmon Kardon stereo speakers for enjoying high quality sound. Toshiba's in-built Sleep & Music feature also allows users to take advantage of the speakers and play music from their mp3 player or smartphone, even when the laptop is switched off.

Built for multimedia consumption, the P50t runs on a 4th generation Intel Core i7 processor with up to 16GB DDR3L RAM. A Hybrid 1TB HDD and 8GB SSD will give you both storage and speed, and an optical drive for DVD reading/writing (no Blu-ray though).

The Toshiba Satellite P50t will retail from S$2,799. Toshiba also refreshed the non-touch P50 model which is available from S$1,999 (up from S$1,699 in last year's model). Although it only features a full HD screen, key updates to the P50 include an AMD Radeon R9 M265X graphics chip, four USB 3.0 ports and removal of the VGA port. Both models are available today.
