Toshiba Announces New High Performance Business Ultrabooks

Toshiba has just announced the availability of two high-performance thin-and-light business Z-series notebooks for professionals. Both models will come with the latest Intel Fourth Generation Core (up to i7 and with vPro technology) processors you'd expect from new notebooks these days.

From the Portege line, there's the Toshiba Portege Z30, a 13.3-inch business Ultrabook that packs all the security features (TPM, AMT, fingerprint scanner) needed by business users. This premium Ultrabook also packs a high-speed solid-state-drive (SSD)that goes up to 512GB in capacity, and measures only 17.9mm thick and weighs just 1.2kg.

That's just slightly heavier than its predecessor (the Portege Z930, which weighs 1.12kg), but it packs a much larger battery, which makes it more useful when you're out and about.

Besides its shock-absorbing chassis being constructed from light and durable magnesium alloy, the Z30 also has plenty of ports that enterprise users appreciate, like the VGA port, and ethernet port. For users who want to use Windows 8 with the Z30, Toshiba offers the option for a touchscreen display.

The more affordable Toshiba Tecra Z40 is no slouch either. Despite being more affordable than the Z30, it also has the same connectivity (VGA, HDMI, ethernet, three USB 3.0 ports) options, build material, as well as security features found on the Z30.

The difference here is that the Z40 has a larger 14-inch display, and a bigger footprint. It measures 20.4mm thick, but only weighs 1.47kg. And because there's more space on the Z40, Toshiba also offers users the option of adding a discrete GPU (NVIDIA GeForce 730M), should they need more graphics power on their machine.

It also comes with up to 500GB of storage space with its mechanical drive, but users who need more speed can opt to have the Tecra Z40 come with a performance boosting SSD (up to 512GB) instead.

Both machines are available for purchase now (or Sitex next week!). The Toshiba Portege Z30's SRP starts from $2299 for the Core i5 variant, while the Core i7 variant with 256GB SSD will cost $2599. The Toshiba Tecra Z40 starts from $1699 for the Core i5 model, and its Core i7 model with discrete GPU will cost you $2199
