The top 5 phone brands in China account for 91% of the market, guess who they are

China is by far the largest market for smartphones. In fact, it is so big that a smartphone maker can become a global sales leader even if it doesn't sell well outside of China.

According to data from market research firm Kantar Worldpanel, the Chinese smartphone market is now dominated by just five brands.

These five brands account for a whopping 91% of the Chinese smartphone market and they are: Huawei, Xiaomi, Apple, Vivo, and Oppo.

Perhaps more importantly, this is up from 79% last year, which means that other brands are having a harder time in China.

Interestingly, Samsung, the world's number one smartphone brand, only has a 2.2% share in the Chinese market. And even then, it is said that their share is falling.

Additionally, other Chinese brands like ZTE, Meizu, and Lenovo are finding it increasingly hard to fight against the five dominant brands in China.
