Tony Hawk takes the Hendo Hoverboard for a spin

It may not be pink like the Mattel hoverboard Marty McFly took from the kid or have rocket thrusters like Biff's Pitbull hoverboard, but it sure looks cool! Plus, it hovers!

If you were a gamer in the late 90s and early 2000s, you'll know of the Birdman. It doesn't matter if you hated skateboarding or the Tony Hawk's Pro Skater games, chances are you'll still have heard of him due to the tons of cross promotion Activision did. If our memories are right, we vaguely remember seeing Tony Hawk posters in the Playstation Spider-man game. One of the Pro Skater games even had Darth Maul as an unlockable skater.

While the series has since gone dormant (except for a brief resurgence with Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD in 2012), it seems the Hawkman isn't ready to hang up his skateboard yet. In fact, the Birdman seems to have traded in his skateboard to ride on a hoverboard instead. Yup, it's the very same hoverboard we mentioned awhile back. It's not a hoax (we said it back then too) and here's even more footage to prove it.

From the footage, it seemed that even the great Hawkman himself is having trouble getting used to the hoverboard, which probably means our dreams of seeing him shred half-pipes and doing a 900 on a hoverboard just got destroyed. Joking aside, it's incredible to watch something everybody who has watched 'Back to the Future II' want (a flying DeLorean time machine comes a close second) become a reality. Despite the seemingly lack of control, riding on the board still looks to be really fun.

As we mentioned previously, the Hendo Hoverboard is currently being crowdfunded on Kickstarter and while the US$10,000 tier (this is the only tier that comes with your own personal hoverboard) is gone, there are some other cool tiers, like the US$299 Hendo Box tier. This nets you the hover engine for you to play around with. It may not be a hoverboard, but you can probably get that vintage Luke Skywalker landspeeder of yours to hover all the way to Toshi Station to pick up some power converters. If that's still too much to pay for you what will ultimately be just a novelty item, you can get a Hoverboard Beta-Board display to put on your desk for US$149. We don't know if this will actually hover using the hover engine or just regular magnets, as the description only states that it will levitate.
