Think you’ve got the best Mac collection? Meet Alex Jason.

When he was just 10 years old, Alex Jason got an iMac G5 through Craigslist by trading a mini bike he bought from mowing his neighbors’ lawn and a snowblower his grandmother gave him. His Dad drove him roughly two hours to pick it up, and on the way back commented on what a good deal he got.

According to an interview with Centralmaine.com, that’s when Alex got the notion to start his collection, and he has since amassed more than 250 gadgets that he has curated museum-style in the basement of his home, which he calls his Apple Orchard. Everything is nicely sorted, and there are even early promotional posters and memorabilia that Alex and his father have driven out to bring home.

Ever seen this? It's a very rare prototype Green Color Classic.

Some of the rare items in Alex’s collection: a first prototype of a mouse known as the Cursor III, a version of the Lisa computer, several versions of the first Powerbook 100, and the Powerbook 170 LPGA, a special multi-colored release for the women’s golf tournament in Japan.

The collection started randomly with six vintage computers Alex bought in Bangor and a collection of over 100 items that he got from Re-Books in Waterville, but his disappointment in some of the modern Macs lead him to focus his collection on the time when Steve Jobs was there.

He even has prototype Clearcase eMate 300s!

Apple collecting has since grown into a family hobby in the Jason household, and Alex and his father are in the process of restoring the Carnegie Library at the Good-Will Hinckley school in Fairfield, Maine. Space has been donated to the duo, who started a non-profit called the Maine Technology Museum and are now raising funds to restore the space.
