These Samsung monitors can charge your phone wirelessly
Samsung has introduced the SE370, a monitor that can charge your phone wirelessly. The new monitor is available in both 23.6-inch (S24E370DL) and 27-inch (S27E370DS) variants and are suited as workstation monitors because of their ability to de-clutter your workspace by dispensing with charging wires.
The new monitors will support the Qi wireless inductive charging standard, which has made its way onto a great number of mobile devices and is being developed by the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC). In fact, the WPC recently announced an upgraded version of the technology that would bring wireless charging speeds in line with existing fast charging power adapters.
Charging is done via a circular charging pad on the monitor’s stand. Once a compatible device is placed on the charging area, an LED light will automatically light up to indicate that it is charging.
In addition to its wireless charging capabilities, the SE370 monitors also prove that they are no slouch in terms of image quality. The SE370 monitors use a 1920 x 1080 Plane-to-Line-Switching (PLS) panel that provides a 178° viewing angle and improved picture quality over more common – and cheaper – TN panels.
Furthermore, the new Samsung monitors will support AMD’s FreeSync variable refresh rate technology to help reduce input lag and enable smoother gameplay. Of course, you’ll need an AMD graphics card to take advantage of this feature so that’s something to consider if you already have an eye on the monitor.
The monitors also have just one DisplayPort 1.2 connector, one HDMI 1.4 connector, and one legacy D-Sub port. It’s notably lacking a DVI port, and we’d have liked to see that in place of the nearly irrelevant D-Sub connector.
We don’t yet have information on pricing or availability, but Samsung may release more details during IFA in Berlin in early September.
