Tesla’s updated self-driving software will be available on cars by next week
If you’ve purchased a Tesla car with HW2 built-in, you’ll be pleased to know about the latest teaser by Tesla Motor’s CEO, Elon Musk. The business magnate took to Twitter to announce that “most” of the self-driving Autopilot functionality on cars with HW2 hardware will be ready for rolling out “towards the end of next week”.
Currently, some features of self-driving are already available in the previous version of Autopilot, even though the Tesla S and Tesla X were already equipped with the hardware necessary for full self-driving functionalities. According to The Verge, Tesla wanted to further calibrate the system through “millions of miles of real-world driving” first, before rolling out the rest of Autopilot. Cars with HW2 are future-proofed with the capability to fully self-drive, even though the testing for all Autopilot features wasn’t completed at launch.
Looks like we might be ready to rollout most of Autopilot functionality for HW2 towards the end of next week

Elon Musk did not elaborate on the specific features to be released on Tesla vehicles next week, although he has updated his Twitter page (seen above) with the technology’s progress – Tesla Autopilot vision neural net was apparently ‘working well’ and it required road time for validation. He was also actively responding his followers, saying that it’s easy for Autopilot to work at night, with twilight being ‘hardest’ for the self-driving functionality.
