According to CNNMoney, Tesla Motors, Inc. has officially dropped the word “Motors” from its name to become Tesla, Inc.. This is according to a financial filing Tesla made to the United States SEC. The report observes Tesla’s name-dropping act is a sign of the company moving away from its flagship electric cars.

Its other ambitions include its US$5 billion Gigafactory, which is essentially a very huge lithium ion battery factory, and Tesla Energy, a program that provides its Powerwall and Powerpack battery systems to homes and businesses. Tesla will also start to offer Solar Roofs to United States homeowners, when its production starts in middle of this year. Coincidentally, almost a decade ago, Apple shortened its name from Apple Computer, and soon after, Apple released the iPhone at MacWorld 2007.
