Tesla just hired the creator of Apple's Swift programming language

Tesla just scored a major coup over Apple by convincing Chris Lattner, Apple Senior Director and Architect, and creator of Apple's open-source Swift programming language, to leave Apple and join Tesla.

At Tesla, Lattner will be Vice President of Autopilot Software, and will be leading the Autopilot team that develops Tesla's driver assistance and self-driving technology.

Lattner's move could be a major blow for Apple, who has long been rumored to be developing its own self-driving car technology

Tesla and Apple have a bit of a rivalry over software engineers, often poaching from each other, especially after Tesla CEO, Elon Musk, quipped in 2015 "If you don't make it at Tesla, you go work at Apple."
