VIA Technologies Announces Android-Based PC (APC), Priced at US$49

VIA Technologies has announced its Android-based PC (APC 8750), priced at US$49. The APC runs a custom-built Android operating system based on Android 2.3 (Gingerbread). It looks like a tiny motherboard whose PCB uses the Neo-ITX form factor although it can be installed in a Mini-ITX or microATX casing.

The APC is powered by a VIA WonderMedia ARM 11 processor, clocked at 800MHz. It features 512MB of DDR3 memory and 2GB of on-board flash storage for the operating system.

The APC features a HDMI port, D-Sub port, four USB 2.0 ports and a microSD card slot that is located next to the audio jacks. (Source: Geek.com)

The system can be powered through its rear 12V connector or internally via a 4-pin 12V connector. At full load, the APC consumed only 13.5W and draws around 4W at idle. Taking of pre-orders by VIA will start in the near future and the company plans to ship the APC in July of this year.
