Tanks Get Invisbility

If you have been paying attention to modern military tech developments, you might have seen the invisibility cloak designed for personal use which mimics and displays the environment one is in in order to help the user blend into his surroundings better. Well, now the Swedish BAE and the FMV have found a way to cloak tanks and night. Named Adaptiv, the technology is able to hide the heat signature of the tanks and instead copies and projects the temperature profile of its surroundings.

This effect is achieved with the use of hexagonal panels or pixels made from specific material that has the ability to change temperature quickly. A single small tank requires approximately 1000 such panels, which are 14cm across in dimensions, to be accurately camouflaged. Thermal cameras on board the tanks themselves help ensure that an accurate gauge of the surrounding temperatures can be established at all times.

Modern warfare has long since moved away from the classic notion of one major, final battle and has instead become all about fast, quick engagements and skirmishes. It seems that if Adaptiv can be made functional for mass application, tanks will be able to rain down hell under in cover of darkness with complete invisibility.
