Synology Unveils All-in-One DiskStation DS211 And DS111 NAS Servers

Taipei, Taiwan, November 9, 2010 — Synology Inc. today launched DiskStation DS211 and DS111, two-bay and one-bay NAS servers that provide reliable and all-in-one solutions for offices and workgroups to share files seamlessly and protect data cost-effectively.

“We are happy with the price to performance ratio of the Synology DS211 and DS111, delivering an average of over 100MB/sec reading speed in a Windows environment, and over 53MB/sec writing, together with a ton of ready-to-use business applications and features, users can get as much value from a single purchase as possible,” said Peter Chen, product manager of Synology Inc.

Running on the award-winning Synology DiskStation Manager 3.0 (DSM 3.0), the Synology DS211 and DS111 offer intuitive user interface and rich business applications, including a centralized solution to share and backup data across Windows, Mac®, and Linux platforms. Data can be backed up to externally attached USB/eSATA drives, rsync-compatible servers, or even to the cloud with Amazon® S3. The block-level backup speeds up the process by only backing up modified part of files. The Web Station application allows hosting of up to 30 websites, making businesses easy to enrich their web presence. The Synology DS211 and DS111 can also serve as mail servers, FTP servers, and print servers via simple steps and a few clicks. In addition, Surveillance Station application helps users to live-view and replay critical events on a web browser or even smart phones. The Synology DS211 and DS111 can satisfy all the business needs in every working environment.

Protecting the confidentiality of business data has become a forefront issue. The Synology DS211 and DS111 come with 256-bit AES hardware encryption engine. Users are being offered with peace of mind for knowing that data is protected from unauthorized access, and does not compromise the high performance of Synology NAS Servers that they are using. Users can also enable encrypted file sharing, firewall, and HTTPS connection to strengthen the security level. Coupled with Windows ACL support, the DS211 and DS111 make the management of data access permission and privileges’ control more specific and flexible.

The Synology DS211 and DS111 are powered by 1.6GHz CPU, 256MB RAM, one Gigabit LAN port, and three USB ports. For energy saving, these two models have lower power consumption in operation when compared with PCs: DS211 consumes 31.2W, while DS111 consumes only 18.7W. When the HDDs hibernate, their power consumptions are less than 11W. Users can also schedule specific time to turn power on/off.
