Synology announces new RT2600ac router at Computex 2016

The Synology RT2600ac is the company's newest flagship router.

Synology is a company that’s synonymous with NAS systems. With that in mind, it’s probably not surprising that the company recently got into the router business. After all, the two devices go hand in hand.

Last year, the company unveiled its first router, the RT1900ac. It was a fast AC1900-class router that has a setup interface with one of the most extensive parental control features we have seen.

For 2016, Synology is following up on the RT1900ac with the new, bigger and badder, RT2600ac. As its name suggest, its a AC2600-class router that offers data transfer rates of up to 1733Mbps on its 5GHz band and up to 800Mbps on its 2.4GHz band - thus roughly 2600Mbps in total.

It also supports MU-MIMO, so it’ll enable more efficient transfers with MU-MIMO compatible devices. You can find out more about MU-MIMO here.

Behind, there's a USB 2.0 port, a single Gigabit Ethernet WAN port and four Gigabit Ethernet LAN ports.

Inside, the Synology RT2600ac is powered by a 1.7GHz dual-core processor, presumably a solution from Qualcomm. The router will also offer USB 3.0 ports and an SD card reader.

Finally, the router will feature Synology’s updated router management interface called Synology Router Management 1.1 (SRM). Some new features brought about by SRM 1.1 include network mapping and real-time traffic analyzer.

No word yet on local availability and pricing, but we’ll update once we have details.
