Symbian Belle Teased for 24th August

Symbian isn't dead yet.

While Nokia has pledged its smartphone lineup to Microsoft's Windows Phone 7, the Finnish company isn't neglecting its strong Symbian base. We've seen proof of it earlier on with the Symbian Anna hands-on, and there's also news of the Anna update being pushed to the Nokia N8, Nokia C7, Nokia C6-01, and Nokia E7 from 2nd September.

Of course, that's not the end of it. Come August 24th, Nokia will be making another announcement, which is possibly related to its next Symbian update, Belle. Details of this Symbian update is still murky, but the grapevine is pointing at some new features, such as a drop-down notification, a multi-tasking tool known as Task Switcher and perhaps a new app store.

Besides the Symbian Belle update, there's also the possibility of three new Nokia smartphones pre-loaded with the Belle update showing up at the 24th August press conference. This includes the Cindy (Nokia 600), Zeta (Nokia 700), and Helen (Nokia 701)

At the end of the day, it's clear that Nokia is keeping to its word for its "ongoing commitment to Symbian, which will see up to 10 more phones introduced over the next 12 months".

We'll be following up with more news of the Symbian Belle update from the press conference on 24th August. In the meantime, check out this video leak of a Nokia N8 running Symbian Belle.
