Three months after its debut on iOS, Super Mario Run is finally coming to the Android platform.

Nintendo announced on Twitter that the Android version of Super Mario Run will be available on 23 March while iPhone users will get an update to the same version on the same day. The update is said to add new playable characters to the game.

Super Mario Run was a smash hit from the beginning; it was listed as the top free and grossing app on the Apple's iOS store in the U.S. Analytics firm Apptopia estimated that the game was downloaded over 2.85 million times on its first day of availability.

Another app analytics firm, Sensor Tower even claimed that Super Mario Run is the fastest mobile game to hit 25 million downloads in four days! The official number was higher at more than 40 million which sets a new App Store record.

If you're planning to download Super Mario Run on your mobile device, do note that playing the game for an hour could consume up to 60MB of data. That translates to about 5GB of data used in a two-week period if the game is played for two to three hours a day.
