STEM-friendly Jimu and Alpha 1 Pro robots have arrived in Singapore

Hail our future overlords — the STEM-friendly Jimu and Alpha 1 Pro robots for kids have arrived in Singapore. Made by UBTech Robotics (the ‘UB’ stands for ‘Union Brothers’), think of these toy bots like Lego with programmable bits.

The Jimu series lets you build pre-designed robots that come out of the box, as well as customize them to build what you’d like. You can also mix and match different Jimu parts from other boxes to create new Jimu bots.

The bots can be programmed via the Jimu Robot App on Android and iOs, they come with pre-determined moves, can record poses, as well as simple code that you can chain up using a visual UI. You can then share your bots and programs online in the Jimu community.

The Jimu bots now available in Singapore include the Mini Kit (S$229), the Karbot Kit (S$259), the Buzzbot and Muttbot Kit ($299), the Explorer Kit (S$379), and the Inventor Kit (S$659). They’re recommended for ages 8 and above.

The Alpha 1 Pro is a higher-end humanoid robot that comes with 16 servo motors, it can be controlled via the Alpha 1 app on iOS and Android, and programmed via a desktop app for Windows and Mac. Because it has more motors, it can execute more complicated movements. Like the Jimu bots, it can also record movements and share actions online.

The Alpha 1 Pro has a suggested retail price of S$899, and is available now, and is recommended for ages 11 to 14.
