Gamers who keep ready funds in their Steam Wallet to take advantage of the latest flash sale or have inventories of weapon skins worth hundreds of dollars in Counter Strike: Global Offensive will know the importance of enabling Steam Guard. Steam’s two-factor authentication service sends a code to you whenever you log in from an unknown computer, serving as a second layer of defence for your account in case it’s been hacked.

Sounds handy, right? The only catch is that you have to log into your email account to retrieve the code, which can be a bit of a bother sometimes.

Fortunately, Valve is now offering the option of receiving the authentication code via its Steam mobile app instead. The Steam Guard Mobile Authenticator is live now for a select group of Android beta testers from this Steam Group. If you’re interested in being part of the testing, you can join the group and hope you get lucky if and when Valve expands its beta testing!

We expect that the Steam Guard Mobile Authenticator will eventually be available for iOS and Android users via their respective mobile apps. The iOS version hasn't had an update to support mobile authentication yet, but the group's administrators say we can expect one soon.
